I have read all of K2OB's (SK) books, and these are the Bible of cubical quad antenna design. The author had real experience designing quads for decades first in Long Island NY, then in FL. Computer simulation cannot impart the knowledge gained through reading these 3 book volumes. I remember when Bill Orr wrote a handbook on Cubical Quad Antennas in the late s or early s it was a paperback that cost $ at the time, well I found one for $39 for the same paperback book on the internet so the Question is, "Is this Cubical Quad Handbook still relevant as to the theory and worth $39?".
I'll not say you that a quad is better than a yagi: I have not enought knowlegde to do that; I'll just say you what I read on some books. On "More about cubical quad", when somebody asks if the Quad listen better than the Yagi, author answers he is agree; Quad is a quieter antenna not really for its capture area but for the closed loop. The ARRL Antenna Book 24th Edition remains the Antenna book to have - do you have a copy? NEW FORMAT ARRL Antenna Book - 24th Edition The examples used tie the concepts learned to a number of antenna types such as Vertical Antennas, Yagi-Uda and Cubical Quad Antennas. Readers will also find chapters dedicated to Antenna Physics Fundamentals.
So lets say no matter what I tell you, you are not putting up a cubical quad antenna, but would like useful information about putting up a yagi antenna. Okay fair enough. There is also some decent information on the EZnec page on Yagi Antennas, but lets assume you just want a modern decent high gain Yagi Antenna. Addeddate. In this article, we will examine the Cubical Quad or Delta Loop geometric structure as antennas. The common term Cubical Quad will be used in general for both the type of loop structures.
However, specific references to Delta Loop will only be made when it warrants a distinction on account of a unique characteristic or feature. 8 Cubical Quad Notes Chapter 1 ~ Introduction and Reference Data Chapter 1 Introduction and Reference Data Rethinking the design of quad beams covers a vast territory--much more than any single individual can hope to cover in a single study.
Therefore, we shall have to confine the scope of the study to a workable unit. As well, as in any study, the. All About Cubical Quad Antennas – This is the full book by William Orr.

Big Signal Antennas. A cubical quad antenna is a four sided, square version of a folded dipole. Incubical quads began gaining popularity with amateur radio operators. According to Bob Heil in his book, Heil Ham Radio Handbook, there were articles in QST and CQ magazine showing how to build a 10 meter quad.
Other Big Guns such as George McCarthy W6SUN "More about Cubical Quads" and John Koszeghy K2OB "The High performance Cubical Quad Antenna", and Big Big Gun Bob Haviland W4MB "The Quad Antenna" have also written good books about Cubical Quads and.
Quad beams remain one of the most controversial antennas around, simply because we inevitably want to compare them to linear Yagis of similar element numbers. Entire books have been written on the quad, the two most notable of which are the Orr and Cowan classic and the.

If we look at antenna books and articles about quad antennas, we will often find references to quad antennas having 2 dB gain over a comparable boom length yagi antenna. The statement often made is a single quad element has 2 dB gain over a dipole, and that 2 dB gain difference carries over into arrays of quad.

Ray built hundreds two meter quads in single. of The ARRL Antenna Book and was interested to see a design for a 2-ele-ment quad.1 This design was based on a careful computer modeling study.
I was surprised to discover that the dimensions Figure 1 — Cubical quads, like this one assembled by the author, can last a long time by using the proper construction techniques. The Cubical Quad or Quad antenna has traditionally not been as widely used as its more popular cousin the Yagi.
However the cubical quad beam antenna is able to provide some advantages in a number of circumstances.
